National investment fraud lawyers KlaymanToskes is investigating broker Surage Perera (CRD# 4716321) of Janues Capital Inc. and Aegis Capital Corp., following the filing of SEC fraud charges for an alleged multi-million dollar ponzi-like scheme that defrauded at least one investor out of approximately $4.3 million.

According to FINRA BrokerCheck, Surage Kamal Roshan Perera was previously registered as a broker with Aegis Capital in Melville, NY and also did business as Janues Capital in Bellerose, NY. The SEC’s complaint alleges that Perera and Janues Capital allegedly falsely told the customer that the firm had access to “specific restricted securities at discounted prices” through connections with large institutional investors.

Perera allegedly engaged in a trading strategy which he referred to as “Options Straddles,” and instead misappropriated $3.5 million of the customer’s funds to engage in highly speculative and leveraged trading. The SEC’s complaint further alleges that Perera concealed his misappropriation of customers’ funds by providing falsified trade confirmations and account statements.
