Oppenheimer Broker Zachary Taylor Suspended by FINRA

Financial advisor Zachary Taylor formerly of Oppenheimer & Co. has been suspended from acting as a broker by FINRA. The findings stated that Taylor recommended that the customers sell puts, typically large numbers of puts in one underlying security at a time. As time passed, Taylor recommended that the customers sell more of these puts, putting at risk most of the principal value of their accounts. Taylor also began recommending increasingly risky puts, where the strike price was closer to the trading price.

Taylor’s recommendations were not in the customers’ best interest and were unsuitable for them based on their investment profiles. Taylor’s member firm has reportedly settled arbitrations with two of the customers for a total of $420,000. According to FINRA BrokerCheck, Taylor was previously registered as a broker with Oppenheimer & Co. in Newport Beach, CA from August 2020 to June 2023. Taylor was also previously registered with Saxony Securities from June 2023 to October 2023.

Signs Investors Should Look Out For About Their Brokerage Accounts

These signs could potentially indicate misconduct, negligence, or investment fraud. Investors are encouraged to contact our firm immediately if you have experienced any of the following:

  • You have substantial losses in your investment accounts
  • You received a call, email, or other communication from your broker’s supervisor or manager regarding your portfolio
  • Your broker misrepresented investment opportunities, or failed to disclose details about investments
  • You notice unauthorized transactions in your investment accounts
  • Your broker is not returning your calls or emails
  • You filed a complaint with your brokerage firm that has not been resolved
  • You see a mistake on your statement, or receive a fraudulent statement

Some investors have close relationships with their brokers due to the time and trust built over the course of their investment relationship.
