A recent study, which surveyed more than 3,000 individuals across all areas of the professional workplace, was conducted to understand the prevalence of sexual harassment in the workplace. The study found that 22% of the professionals in financial advisory/wealth management jobs believe that sexual harassment is highly prevalent in the industry. The study also found that 63% of women and 51% of men have personally experienced, witnessed, or heard about others experiencing sexual harassment throughout their career. Perhaps most importantly, less than half of the people surveyed believe that sexual harassment is always or usually handled in an appropriate manner.
“Given the history of gender inequality in the the financial industry, it is unsurprising that the results show that people believe there is a high prevalence of sexual harassment in the securities industry,” said Lawrence L. Klayman, the firm’s managing partner and co-founder. “Now, victims of sexual harassment need to know there is recourse for having to endure this inappropriate behavior.”
