What is an “Options Overlay Strategy”

Over the past few years, UBS Financial Services has come under fire for its Yield Enhancement Strategy (YES) – presented to investors as a conservative options overlay strategy known as an Iron Condor. The Iron Condor strategy trades call and put options on the S&P 500. UBS characterized the strategy as having limited correlation to the market and having downside protection. Instead, the UBS YES program has shown significant correlation to the markets.

According to securities attorney Lawrence L. Klayman, “The rise in options overlay strategy investor complaints may indicate systemic issues within firms who recommended the strategy to their customers. It also extends to the financial professionals who perpetuate its use, including, but not limited to, representatives of UBS Financial Services and Morgan Stanley.”

If you suffered investment losses as a result of your brokerage firm or financial advisor utilizing an options overlay strategy, contact Lawrence L. Klayman, Esq. at (866) 460-4957 or lklayman@klaymantoskes.com to discuss your potential case.
